ISEAGE receives federal funds
Located at the CII, the Internet Scale Event and Attack Generation Environment, or ISEAGE, received $611,000 in federal funding. ISEAGE sponsors a cyber defense/security program that simulates cyber attacks on a virtual internet to research computer systems' defense mechanism. Started by Doug Jacobson, director of the Information Assurance Center, ISEAGE is located at CyberInnovation's Technical Collaboration Facility. ISEAGE began with a $2 million grant from the state to look at what would happen to Iowa's cyber network if, for example, a natural disaster took out one of its portals. After four years of research, Jacobson expects to release the results this summer. ISEAGE also provides the infrastructure for a state-wide program called IT-Adventures that engages Iowa's high school students in information technologies. Students form IT-Clubs to access learning materials from Iowa State University, experiment with provided equipment, and ask questions of IT professionals, university faculty, college students, and other high school students. The capstone events is the IT-Olympics, a day of cyber-defense, robotics, and game design competitions. Jacobson envisions that corporations may use ISEAGE in the future to test new security products in a controlled environment. |
