About the CyberInnovation Institute
The CyberInnovation Institute is a new
facility at Iowa State University, which
brings together ISU's IT-related research
centers to enhance our combined research
competitiveness and leverage it to strengthen
Iowa's IT economy. The CII's
IT-related assets include world-class
research infrastructure, faculty, research,
and training programs spanning a diverse
array of IT areas, such as:
- Application specific infrastructure
- Computational intelligence
- Data driven discovery in science and
engineering
- High performance computing
- Information security
- Interaction, visualization, and
interpretation
- Theoretical foundations of computer
science and engineering
The CyberInnovation Institute builds on
ISU's excellence in interdisciplinary IT
research, bringing together these
participants:
The CyberInnovation Institute also partners
with industry leaders, creating an
entrepreneurial culture that fosters
connections and opportunities. Currently, our

Mission
Iowa State University established the
CyberInnovation Institute (CII) to
strengthen ISU's research in
information sciences and information
technologies. The CII now serves as a
unifying home for ISU's IT-related
research centers, enabling new and larger
IT-research projects and providing a
unique platform to pioneer new ways for
universities to work with industrial
partners to enhance competitiveness,
spawn more startups, and foster strong
IT-based economic growth.
The CyberInnovation Institute provides a
range of services for university
researchers, industry leaders, and
entrepreneurs. These services include
educational resources and facilities that
offer the following advantages.
-
Broader research
scope By bringing
together diverse teams of IT faculty
and students and sharing research
infrastructure with industrial partners
and creative startups, the CII deepens
as well as broadens IT research, making
possible the cross-disciplinary
research needed to solve complex
problems in the information sciences
and to grow Iowa's economy.
-
Strong IT-based
economic growth opportunities
As a consortium of people
and resources, the CII establishes the
bridge that has been missing between
academic IT research and industry-led
commercialization and entrepreneurial
activity, which is essential for
successful IT-driven economic
development. The CII nurtures an
entrepreneurial culture that fosters
new connections and the aggressive
pursuit of emerging opportunities as a
way to help grow Iowa's economy.
-
Shared resources and
infrastructure The
CII provides substantial new
infrastructure (including physical
space, equipment, and services) to
increase IT research and its
commercialization. The CII is
headquartered on the Iowa State
University campus in Howe Hall, part of
ISU's Engineering Teaching and
Research Complex. In addition, CII has
17,250 square feet of prime office
space at 2321 North Loop Drive,
adjacent to the ISU Research Park,
about two miles from the ISU campus.
Both facilities are high performance
computing facilities with high speed,
high bandwidth connectivity.
Through its shared resources and
infrastructure, CII works to bring people
together to solve problems, applying
knowledge gained from research to
specific industry based problems,
translating applied research results into
commercially viable IT products and
services.
